An Event Close to my Heart: Live Longer in Style

Hello loves,

Live Longer in Style on October 10 in Cincinnati

Life has been even more crazy busy for me than the usual, but this kind of busy is very near and dear to my heart. For the last ten months I have been busy planning an event that would be held not only in memory of my grandma, but would also bring awareness to liver cancer and shine a light on liver awareness. My grandma, Louise Birch, was told on April 10, 2012 that she had liver cancer, just a short three months later she died. Before getting the liver cancer diagnosis I was aware that you could get cancer of anything, however liver cancer was never on my radar until then. I didn’t know of anyone who had it and I don’t remember ever hearing anything about it. As I talked to others about it, it was more than clear that I wasn’t the only one who felt this way. I knew this was my chance to turn this tragic experience in my family’s lives into something positive.

Me and Nanny Mothers Day 2012

My grandma’s birthday is October 13, last October I wrote this personal piece that appeared on ModCityMag.com. This October I am holding Live Longer in Style on October 10 at ALBA Beauty Studio in Cincinnati. Why October? Because most people don’t know that October isn’t just Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s also Liver Awareness Month. My goal is to sprinkle a little green in the sea of pink this month.

On this night we will celebrate the amazing woman my grandma was as we bring awareness to this disease in a fashion that my grandma would have just loved! Tickets are $10 and that will get you complimentary makeup touch-ups and 5-minute hairstyles by Cincy Style Bar, a fashion show displaying designer Amy Kirchen‘s latest collection, wine and food. There is also going to be an amazing silent auction taking place all night with items donated by actress, activist and author Kristen Johnston; BRAVO’s hit reality show Princesses: Long Island, jewelry designer to the stars Lisa Graystone Hergenroeder’s Evolution Vintage, a bag of goodies from celebrity makeup artist, Rachel Lisa‘s soon-to-launch makeup line and so many more donated baskets! All proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Liver Foundation in my grandma’s name.

If you find yourself in the Cincinnati area on October 10 you can get your tickets at LiveLongerInStyle.EventBrite.com. The first 100 attendees will also receive a swag bag! I hope to see you there!

xoxo,
Amy
